Happy Birthday MICHAEL JACKSON – Courtesy of Spike Lee and Co.

30 Aug

Thank you Spike Lee for helping us all celebrate the late and great Michael Jackson. A legacy was left on this world by that super talented artist. Prospect park was full of hundreds of people out celebrating the music that the King has left us.

There were special appearances by Snoop Dogg and Warren G. As soon as they hit the stage the crowd went even more wild. I enjoyed observing the dancing crowds in the beautiful weather. I can’t wait for this event next year because I will definitely be coming earlier! I brought my 9 month old pit bull dog and he was as friendly as ever, although many were frightened by his ferocious face. All in all, the day was relaxing with my sister, dog, and some good old Michael Jackson tunes 🙂

SOAPSTONE – Artists For Autism Awareness

30 Aug

Art galleries are something I prize and frequent, especially when it’s for a cause. Soapstone Gallery can be found at 11 West 36th Street, 5th Floor New York, NY 10018.

The show last night included works of art painted, sculpted, etc. on skateboard decks. The art was amazing, with my favorite piece coming from Nemo (Mike Mendez), priced at $700, but well worth the money if you’re balling and into art. His board was the black sculpted one as seen in my slide show below.

The money raised was to help those with autism. Take a look at some wonderful pieces of art!

Invest in Boots – FLY CITY!

28 Aug

Why not invest in boots? They last longer than sneakers and certainly spruce up any outfit. I have a boot fetish that has not been materialized as of yet. I own about only three pairs of some really nice boots and always want more more more; however, I realize that once I open that can of worms, it is unlikely that I will be able to stop :/ Well all is not lost. I still browse the internet salivating at the boots I see online.

Check the Boots Eye Candy of the Day!

Yet Another Dish!

26 Aug

Healthy eating pays off in the long run. If you are clean on the inside, beauty will manifest itself on your outward appearance. Diet and exercise are key! Go ahead and view my youtube video on cooking green beans simmered in fresh tomatoes and herbs. It promises to be a delight! If you have any suggestions or dishes of your own, reply to this post 🙂

COOK — CHEF — WAKE — BAKE — SWAG!

I am a man of the kitchen. Over the years, I have developed cooking skills, mostly learned from trial and error and my mother. Everyone should learn how to cook. It is a stress-relieving activity, if done correctly; the ability to select one’s own ingredients is surely a beautiful thing! This video provides step-by-step instructions on how to make my famous macaroni pie, aka baked macaroni. If you have any questions about the recipe, comment on the youtube video or leave a comment on the blog. In a future post, I will also reveal how to cook carrot soup and grilled salmon (not as easy as it sounds!). ENJOY!

GIVE ME MORE – “FASH-ON”

11 Aug

Gimme, gimme, gimme! Familiar words, huh? We have all heard a loud infant screaming these words at some point. This is where it should stop. In fashion, this phrase translates to “shop until you drop” or “pull until you’re full.” Too bad I’m not down with that movement. Shopping is a thrill that we all should enjoy, but during a recession like this, less is sometimes more. There is no reason to have several shirts of the same color and jeans of the same wash, even if you’re a celebrity. Now I’m not saying you can’t buy several shirts and pants. I just believe they shouldn’t be similar colors or similar patterns. It’s a waste of money. Also, keep in mind the more clothing and “stuff” you invest in, the more accessories you need to make it work.

Don’t think I’ve forgotten about the working class folk, who need to buy twenty white shirts and dark suits for work. That is fine. Work is usually boring and requires boring attire. This is the exception guys! Once we start speaking casual attire or club wear, we advocate: :LESS IS MORE. The worst case scenario is when someone owns a lot of clothing, but there is no variation.

Now I’m big on variation and you are probably saying, what is the KrowdpleaseHer talking about? He always wears different outfits! Well what you don’t know is that I recycle. Recycling clothing is the best thing ever discovered. Furthermore, I stick to my policy that less is more because I don’t own two of the same or even similar patterns in my wardrobe, clothing and accessories alike.

Who am I to judge this? Well, I’m nobody. And as such, I will continue to advocate this Nobody View: “Less Is More.”

P.S. What you choose to do once you get that closet variation is your choice.

Some will go over the top with their variation.

Others will keep it simple.

It’s all good to me. I’m laying the fundamentals here.

And We Had a Holy Ghost Party!!!

8 Aug

Did you ever wonder what a Holy Ghost Party would look and feel like? I was apart of a spectacular Holy Ghost showdown in Central Park yesterday afternoon. The sun was beaming, but the artists saturated the atmosphere with praise, deflecting the heat away. For those who are unaware of who the Holy Ghost is or don’t believe in it: it is a being that is apart of the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Ghost) and provides inspiration, guidance, and power to God’s people from on high.

Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (NIV)
John 14:16-17
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever– the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

As apart of the SummerStage series, Juanita Bynum, Kierra Sheard and the Clark Sisters (Twinkie, Dorinda, Jackie, and Karen Clark) were all invited to bless the stage, and they did nothing less than that. Juanita Bynum delivered a powerful intro. She urged the crowd to get to know Jesus and ministered in Spirit and in Truth. A favorite line of hers was, “you gain the license to be a true worshiper when you can do a naked praise; that is, a praise without instruments.” This Juanita Bynum said as she blessed the microphone with an A Capella piece, which sounded anointed and beautiful.

Kierra Sheard’s voice was so soulful and anointed. She blessed the mic with some all time favorites from her latest cd. I was waiting to hear Praise Offering and Kierra disappointed me when she didn’t sing that song, but I did enjoy her moment of praise toward the end when she sang How Great is Our God and There is None Like You. This was truly my moment of promise and praise. No one can do it like Kierra! The band was equally talented with J Drew Sheard killing, as usual, on the drums. The band also played for the Clark Sister’s performance. Encore for them!

The Clark Sisters are hands down the best female group to have blessed the stage in the last decade. Their vocal abilities cannot be touched and their sleek harmonies are extremely original. No one can do it like the Clark Sisters. I enjoyed timeless favorites like Jesus Brought the Sunshine and Is My Living In Vain. I was upset when the sound crew screwed up their entrance. Karen’s microphone was not on and the sound was just not together. I know it was a free concert and I’m aware sound technicians have a lot on their plate, but GET IT TOGETHER SUMMERSTAGE CREW!!! These ladies are Grammy and Stellar winners for Christ’s sake! In any case, Twinkie ripped the piano, and her sisters used their vocals and preaching abilities to slay the Devil and his minions on the spot. Karen was beasting, as usual. There is no voice that can touch her vocal gliding. Jackie surprised all with her Angels solo. Truly a rich voice she has. Dorinda was lively and gave us the word when we needed it. Truly an experience not to be missed! But if you did, take a look at all my footage 🙂

I have to give a quick shout out to Liz Black, the MC for the night. She was refreshingly and appropriately comical, representing the 24 hour Gospel station in NY WLIB 1190.

DJ Dee Wiz surprised me with his gospel mixes. I heard him at the Ryan Leslie concert with a whole different repertoire, but he came with it for the gospel lovers and we appreciate that! Watch as the crowd gets DOWN to his throwback gospel selections.
