It’s a Celebration – Conclave 2011 – via Indiana

14 Jul

It was a tremendous honor celebrating 100 years of service and achievement with the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. I was able to spend four days in Indianapolis, Indiana, where all the fesitivites and business meetings were being held. Business and pleasure went hadn in hand this weekend as the meetings took place by day and partying went on during the night, and even in some cases throughout the day.

Shout out to the Zeta Epsilon brothers, my own chapter the Naughty Nu Rho Nupes, Alpha Delta, and all the rest of the nupes I was able to kick it with during my stay in Indiana. It was interesting to tour Indiana as a city. Although the city seemed quite dead on Thursday night, the vibe significantly picked up  closer to the end of the work week. There are so many stories to tell from this weekend, but I will have to let the photos and videos do most of the talking, as I could find myself writing a book on the epicness of my time in Indiana. Take a look below and witness history!

COUNTDOWN TO CONCLAVE – DAY 3

21 Jun

We are at the 3 day mark of the centennial conclave countdown. 3 is such a great number!

FACT:  Kappa Alpha Psi has more than 650 alumni and collegiate chapters in the United States and across the world. In July of 2005, Kappa Alpha Psi partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, demonstrating its commitment to serving the community.

Percy Sutton was a well-known African American political and business leader. He was a Freedom rider, civil rights activist and attorney. Sutton was also the legal representative for Malcolm X. A man of achievement, Sutton held the Manhattan borough president from 1966 to 1977, the longest tenure in that office. Sutton was a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, apart of the New York Alumni chapter.

HAPPY CENTENNIAL to the men of KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY, INC.

Let us all extend our congrats to the premier fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. founded on the predominantly white campus of Indiana University on January 5th, 1911 in Bloomington, Indiana. 10 founders successfully overcame hardships and doubts to bring something new founded on the principles of achievement to a campus where black men were not expected to make it intellectually, physically and mentally. This past week, my fraternity celebrated 100 years of achievement.

Throughout the years, Kappa men, also known as Nupes,  have left their mark in an extensive array of industries. Some noteworthy names include, Arthur Ashe Johnny Cochran, Lorenzo Wright, Robert Johnson, Tavis Smiley, Percy Sutton, Cedric the Entertainer among others. I celebrated with my brothers in New York, attending a documentary release hosted by some New York Nupes. We also showed our support by attending the Touch of Klass event (pictured below). This centennial can only mean more excellent things for the Nupes. In a few months, our biennial CONCLAVE event will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. I cannot express how much the Nupes take over a city for a conclave event. Soulja Boy’s Pretty Boy Swag sums it up accurately. This will be a year of EPIC proportions.
