THE EXPERIENCE – Lela Rose Spring/Summer 2012 – #MBFW 2012

14 Sep

Lela Rose

Lela Rose really brought the heat with her spring/summer collection. The dresses were elegant, yet sharp. The colors were a blend of nudes and pops of spring colors. I enjoy the way Lela Rose creates her pieces, as they appeal to the working woman who wants to escape the drab of a black and white, 9-5 look. The skirts and shorts were also a fine touch to the flowing tops. Some of the pieces contrasted, yet made sense. The evening gowns and long, flowing dresses caught the crowd’s attention, as they saw the attention to detail in the construction. Well done!

We spotted Susan Sarandon in the crowd. What a beautiful woman!

THE EXPERIENCE – Concept Korea – Son Jung Wang

14 Sep

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week consists of runway shows and presentations. I love the runway shows for the exciting moments when the models walk down the runway and show the genius behind the brand via their clothing. I even more so love presentations, as the models stand still and one is able to see all the aspects of the collection and “pick,” so to speak, the designers’ brains.

Concept Korea was a presentation and collaboration between several designers: Doho, Lie Sang Bong, Resurrection by Ju Young, Son Jung Wang, Steve J and Yoni P. I was so impressed by this presentation. The guests were all greeted with servers holding trays of champagne and the venue was certainly an excellent fit. The lighting was great; when I saw the first group of models, they stunned me with the creativity behind them. The Korean designers are ahead of the game.

Son Jung Wang

This collection was simple, yet complex. The colors were mostly shades of blue. The dresses were chic in construction and reminded me of something a woman would choose to wear on an evening out to dinner in a fancy restaurant. Well done.

Resurrection by Ju Young

Ju Young’s collection was mod and edgy. The models were all male, a step away from the all female cast of the neighboring collections. The pieces could best be described as the Space Age meets the Medieval Era. The looks were clean and polished, yet invoked a sense of the rock star element.

MBFW 2010 – Eva Minge

16 Sep

The name of the line? SOLIDARITY. Eva Minge delivered just that. Her line was consistent and solid. This was the first time Eva Minge presented her work during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. Her dĂ©but spoke volumes. Eva Minge’s message is “freedom and solidarity is fashion.” Simple message, powerful portrayal through her work.

Eva Minge’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection reminded me of an 80’s inspired theme. The browns used were warm and their tones were beautiful. A lot of the looks were ready to wear. I enjoyed all the models’ faces. This collection was well done!

MBFW 2010 – Gottex

16 Sep

Gottex was an extravagant affair. The models were all gorgeous. The swim wear was equally intricate and beautiful. According to designer Molly Grad, “the collection celebrates women. It’s a fusion of technology and Luxury.”

I enjoyed the bright printed and chiffon capes. I also liked the bikinis that accentuated the shape of the models. There were a total of 44 looks. I think adding the belts to some of the swimsuits was simple, yet genius. Take a look at some looks I captured!

MBFW 2010 – General Idea

16 Sep

Bumsuk Choi is the name behind the menswear label, General Idea. This young designer added life to the runway. His menswear pieces were nothing short of creative and practical. The first couple of pieces included polyester hood coats and cotton shorts. Bumsuk Choi’s Summer 2011 collection is about Nostalgia. He says, “As a designer, I found it sad to reflect and realize that I had forgotten the leap of happiness my heart would make for fashion and design.” It seems Choi wanted to go back to his roots in designing and I saw that, with his use of natural colors and creative designs.

I especially enjoyed the last few looks with the multicolored painted cape and shoulder bags. The models did a great job on the runway. I loved and would definitely wear this line!
